Mission Statement
As the Catholic community of Shelby County, Iowa we are called to walk in solidarity with the whole human family. This commitment is rooted in the Gospel mandate that every person is to be accepted as if he or she were Christ Himself. We will attempt do this with a spirit of humility by building relationships, friendships, and empathy with the people of the parishes of St. Peter the Apostle in Nicaragua.
Goals:
1. We hope to build long term relationships, and friendships with the people of the parishes of St. Peter the Apostle in Nicaragua.
2. We will spend time listening, asking questions, and learning in an attempt to understand their lives culturally, spiritually, and economically.
3. We hope this understanding will encourage a tradition where all peoples are treated with hospitality, dignity, and respect in Shelby County.
4. We will support the people of Nicaragua in their efforts to build a better quality of life when we are asked and as we are able.
5. We hope to unify and strengthen relationships between the Catholic communities of Shelby County.
6. We will encourage the formation of Shelby County Catholics on Jesus’ call of solidarity with the poor and the teachings of the Catholic Church on social justice issues.
